If you’re new to San Antonio, or even if you are one of the 1.5 million people already living here, you may not be aware of companies hiring tech talent for downtown office locations.
The good news is that these employers are actively hiring technology workers. All data quoted are from LinkedIn or company websites as of mid-July.

H-E-B is the largest employer in Texas and the 12th largest privately held U.S. company. The Butt family and its 100,000-plus employees own the 116-year-old grocery company. H-E-B operates over 350 supermarkets, superstores, and gourmet markets throughout Texas and northeast Mexico.
H-E-B is embracing digital retail technologies for its customers during different stages of the buying process, adding technology to nearly every aspect of their business. Their 150,000 square feet technology center at the H-E-B San Antonio headquarters in the Arsenal Historic District is slated to open in summer 2022. H-E-B plans to add about 1,000 new jobs and move hundreds of existing employees to the tech center upon completion.
Interesting fact: The retailer uses sensors in its manufacturing plants to measure the amount of seasoning on its chips and monitor fruit ripening. H-E-B is also testing robots that can select groceries for customers.
Founded in 1922, USAA provides insurance, banking, and other financial services to the nation’s military community. The San Antonio-based Fortune 500 diversified financial services company employs almost 30,000 people.
The majority work at their main campus in the Medical Center area and at locations across the globe. However, their downtown One Riverwalk Center office is focused on developing innovative technologies for USAA. USAA open positions at their San Antonio location range from digital technical product manager to infrastructure services and digital transformation.
Interesting fact: USAA developed remote deposit check imaging technology, so the next time you deposit a check using your cellphone, you can thank USAA.
Founded in 1868, Frost Bank employs over 3,000 people. They offer banking, investment, and insurance services to both individuals and businesses throughout Texas.
The company focuses heavily on banking technology, offering an app for simple deposits and money transfers and an online portal that allows businesses to manage their cash flow. Their technology and digital job openings include software developers, software engineers, and robotic automation specialists.
Interesting fact: A loan from Frost Bank helped bring the Spurs to San Antonio from Dallas.
Founded in 2010, WP Engine is the leading WordPress digital experience platform, providing managed WordPress hosting for more than 1.2 million websites and digital experiences.
The Austin-based technology company opened its San Antonio office in the historic Rand Building on Houston Street in 2014. The San Antonio location had over 20 tech job openings at press time for positions ranging from senior production engineer to software engineer and data analyst.
Interesting fact: If you’re interested in job mobility, WP Engine has its headquarters in Austin, Texas, and offices in San Francisco, California, London, England, and Limerick, Ireland, in addition to its downtown San Antonio location.
Mailgun is the leading API-based email delivery service for sending, receiving, and tracking emails. Since launching in 2010, Mailgun has delivered innovative technologies to the email space to benefit technically progressive companies around the globe.
In 2019, Mailgun acquired Mailjet, the premier email solution for teams to create and send emails and SMS. Mailgun and Mailjet currently have over 200 team members in over 10 countries and countless cities worldwide. They’re looking to add software engineers and site reliability engineers.
Interesting fact: While they’re headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, Mailgun also has a European headquarters in Paris, France.
Founded in 1997, Liquid Web is a market leader in managed hosting and managed application services for small- and mid-sized companies. The company owns and manages its own core data centers, providing diverse offerings, including bare metal servers, fully managed hosting, Managed WordPress, and Managed WooCommerce Hosting.
Liquid Web employs almost 600 people at its Houston Street-based company. Their San Antonio job openings include positions for senior software developers.
Interesting fact: Liquid Web has appeared on the Inc. 5000 Fastest-Growing U.S. Companies 12 times. Very few companies have made the list more than once, with only 33 companies making the list 12 times.
